First, I have to :( because the series is over.

Now, about the book: off the bat, I liked it better than Halfblood Prince, purely in terms of the writing. The prose of Halfblood Prince is rather flat and dull to be but Deathly Hallows was much livelier and just more enjoyable to read. But I really did blitz right on through the book so I definitely need to re-read before I can better evaluate it.

It felt very different, of course, because they were not at Hogwart's for most of the book but I really did like the expanded look into JKR's whole universe: a Wizard's wedding; the extended stay at 12 Grimmauld Place; another look at the Ministry; Gringott's.

But from my blitzy read, there really were some powerful moments in this books: Hedwig dying; Harry losing his wand; Ron struggling with the locket; Dobby's death; the passage when Harry realizes he has to let Voldemort kill him.

AND RON LIVED!!! YAY RON!!

Finally, I WAS RIGHT ABOUT SNAPE LOVING LILY! This has been my pet theory since the very first book and I was right!!!

Well, that's all for now. I really need to do a slower re-read and really absorb everything.

I enjoyed it. My fave bit came when Grawp picked up Hermione and Ron got all, "THAT'S MY WOMAN!" on him. :D The rendering of the Ministry was stunning although the Wizengamot looked a bit like Venetian Doges with those hats. Staunton was great as Umbridge. Daniel Radcliffe wasn't awful.

However, all was not perfect as I thought Snape's Worst Memory was way too damn rushed and came across as rather pointless. It's (to me) a pivotal scene in the book, for the characters of both Snape and Harry, and that simply did not come across at all in the movie. Plus, I'm starting to dislike Rickman as Snape. I thought he played that scene all wrong. Where was the anger, the fury? It was totally missing.

Regardless of my quibbles, the movie totally has me chomping at the bit for book 7 which I would like right now this very second please.

All I want is for Ron to live. Lovely.

The new Roman galleries are in the space formerly occupied by the cafeteria (although said space was always intended to house the collection when the Museum was built).

Front view and back view, as it were:

Sarcophagus means flesh eater.

I really like the engraved Etruscan mirrors.
Took cat #1 to the vet today. He is in fine health! Although he needs his teeth cleaned. But! He is still talking to me after the traumatic experience, which is good. We shall see how cat #2 reacts.

Then I bought a whoopie pie and an iced coffee and wandered over to Prospect Park, which I had previously managed to visit a grand total of once in my 2 years of living in Brooklyn. Reasoning? Who cares. Ah no, well, seriously, there are so many parallels between them, starting with their base power, which allows both of them to have other powers. They just, uh, acquire them in different ways.
2. Nathan will wind up in Japan with Hiro. Why? Because it would rock.
3. Oh, well. That's it really.
Tra la la. I am bored. And it's only 9:40. Oh, sigh.

Well, let me then post about Heroes, as I have something on my mind.

One of the things I really like about Heroes is the ability of the main male characters to express and admit to emotion. Usually this is considered a bad thing for male characters but Heroes doesn't shy away from it. You of course have Peter, the ultimate emotional outputter, but even Nathan gets in on the act (the finale! I loved that part and not just for any Flying Bangs hints. It was truly something lovely to see). There's DL, admitting that he can't manage with Micah on his own and Matt, admitting something is wrong with his marriage and wanting to work on it (unlike his wife!!!). Noah, petrified he'll lose Claire and his family. Geico Dude gets in on the act as well.

Even Sylar is presented as ostensibly just wanting some approval from his mother though I think that's not really the case. The only person Sylar wants approval from is himself.

But I digress. (Eyebrows!)

Back to emotional men, I hope this isn't something they try to change next season. I'll be honest and say that Peter cutting his hair (the bangs!!!) makes me a wee nervous as it's supposedly being presented as Peter "maturing." To which I say, wtf? Peter wasn't that immature to begin with and WHY DID THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE BANGS? WHAT'S NEXT? SYLAR'S EYEBROWS? I fear they might think Peter not being as open to expressing his ~*~feelings~*~ would be another sign of maturity. Teevee is not always good with these things.

(The Bangs. Whatever.

I have no idea what will happen tomorrow night (HOMG!) but my guess is that it won't be happy times. Gotta go out with a bang. Plus, the nature of the show allows the writers to bring anyone back or start over again, etc. etc. (Except Niki, plz. And Matt's wife. And Mama Petrelli. Y'all can go away and never come back.)
